I was sold a Leapers 3-9x40 with illuminated recticle scope for my SKS a couple years ago, and after screwing around with it from time to time and never being satified I took it off. I've seen talk that you can't put a scope on an SKS, it just knocks it off zero. I'm thinking the guy that sold it to me saw me coming a mile away. Anyway is a Leapers scope good for anything? Or should I just try it on my Crossman Nitro?

Leapers, NcStar, UTG, are all the same brand of pure sh*t. Use the optic as a target or frame it as reminder of "you get what you pay for". Nothing wrong with making the mistake of thinking you got a great deal. It is however a problem if you don't learn from your mistakes.

If I see any firearm in the EE that has ANYTHING Leapers/NcStar/UTG clamped/tied/glued onto it, it's an instant pass. For me (call me a snob, whatever) it's indicative of how a person takes care of the firearms. Rightly or wrongly, that's my first impression.

It's all mall ninja garbage.

Cue people saying 'Ive had one for years on my .22 and it's AWESOME' and others claiming they are 'good value'. They aren't.. they are pure pieces of airsoft rated (if that!) trash.

Exactly!
I skip any EE adds that have any of those brands in the title...
I am a gun owner, not airsoft crap

Its nice to see some informed users/owners of quality gear.

So there you have it op. The concencis thus far is that they're junk. No doubt as others have posted you will soon see those who will attempt validate their choice of low quality garbage with tales of many thousands of rounds and/or many years of trouble free performance. I'm of the opinion that such people are liars or bad at math.

No one ever has to justify buying brand name gear.

:kickInTheNuts:Yeah I was afraid of that, I have a redfeild and a bushnell on other rifles and I've had nothing but joy from them. Lesson learned. And I won't go back to the store that sold it to me because the owner is knowledgeable and was obviously looking to push some un-sellable crap on me. Thanks for all of your input.

I agree that most of their stuff is below grade but there seem to be exceptions...h ttp:/ /www.opticsplanet.com/leapers-utg-3-12x44mm-swat-ie-ao-mildot-ez-tap-water-proof-riflescope.html its actually one of the top rated scopes they sell!?! I still agree with the other sentiments...you almost always get what you pay for.

I had a leapers on my .22, it and the .22 are sold. Worked for me for over 600 rounds and was still working last I took it out. Now I have moved on to Bushnell, Bausch & Lomb and ironsights. Not saying they are a good value, not saying they are a bad value. Personally I prefer Bushnell as the best value for $. If I had the $$$, Zeiss would sit atop every rifle I own.

I've had a side mount and an AK style scope rail on my SKS for a while...I've never had a problem about the scope being knocked off zero. I had a couple of Leapers scopes years ago when I first got into shooting, and I wasn't happy with their lack of brightness. Even the cheap Bushnells, Tasco, or Simmons scopes are brighter.

Morning,
I think YOU should try it on a different rifle and decide what it is good for. Every one has different needs, and since you have it already, it would be only a bit of shooting time to see if it suits an application for you. I was told by many people that a Tasco is a glorified tent stake, yet the two I bought on a close out sale work just fine for hunting rifles. The fact that I was able to get both for $140 was a big bonus. They are high end optics by no means ( and yes, I own Nightforce and Leupold scopes as well to compare), but they carry out their expected tasks just fine.
Just my thoughts,
Ken
