I'd like to ask your advice.

I'm trying to learn how to tell if the advertised price of a firearm on CGN is a fair deal. I've used the methods of searching for every post advertising similar firearms to see what they sold for, and I've cross checked with other message boards and online auction sites, but prices seem to vary widely for what would appear to be similar pieces.

Is there a resource out there that can help a guy learn what a firearm is really worth? I've heard of the "blue book", but I don't know who has them, or if they are a fair indication of value.

Thanks for your time.

The Blue Book is a US publication which can have a huge difference in price over actual Canadian value. Knowledge is power so just post a 'what is this worth' post here on CGN.:)

About 95% of the guys that sell here all have fair prices.

The other 5% are right off they're rocker.

On the other hand.............

About 95% of the guys here are off their rocker.

And the other 5% have never heard of CGN :D

SC.................................

Just 95%?

As an aside (hijack) did you (SC) see that fellow in the shotgun forum asking about the CZ doubles? Time for you to head in there and brag them up for him.

Well, in a round about way I was trying to search for a new source for prices without appearing rude to someone who had a firearm for sale here.

There's been a few pieces in the buy and sell forum that I've been tempted to buy, but wasn't sure if the price was fair. Would it be rude to post a question here to see if the guy was asking a fair price, and then use that information to make an offer?

If the guy gets mad about you posting a question to find out the value maybe he isn't being reasonable with his price and knows it or doesn't like to see that he over paid for said firearm and now he can't get a good price (in his mind)

The answers to your post should reflect the asking price if not either the seller should have a good excuse (add-ons etc.) or he should adjust the price. If not maybe the item just isn't worth the same value to the 2 of you and you should move on, an item is only worth what someone will pay for it.
