Hi guys,
I've ordered a Ruger GP100 with the 4.2" barrel and am looking for suggestions for a holster. I would prefer a leather one, but most of the ones I have seen have some form of thumb break, which I want to avoid. I will use the gun for plinking, but also for some informal competion at the club using IPSC targets and set-ups, so I want something that will have good retention and a smooth draw.
Thanks for your suggestions.
Geoff

Recently picked up a 4" Ruger GP 100 and at a local gun show, for $10.oo I got a Bianchi #5 BHL, .38/357 S&W. As pictured on the right, a perfect fit:D.

Informal or not you shouldn't use a holster that doesn't cover the trigger for quick draw and speed shooting comps.

You will find that holsters for the S&W586/686(or K&L Frames)/Python will all fit the GP100 perfectly. Makes it a lot easier than trying to find a GP100 specifically. I have a few and all work exactly as hoped. Even the much poo-poo'd Fobus is a perfect fit.

In the mid 70's I had the good fortune to spend a day visiting Elmer Keith at his home in Salmon Idaho. As we were preparing to leave I had him pose for a picture standing by my truck, note the holster design.

I thought it would be fitting to outfit my 4" 29 with one of the same. I contacted the manufacturer of Elmers holster, Milt Sparks, in an effort to get one of the same. The present day model of that they make is of a covered trigger design.

As I have little interest in aspects of quick draw, I asked if it were possible to make me a replica of Elmers holster and they were kind enough to do so:D:D.

Safariland holsters fit great and they are lined so you won't ruin your finish.

$43.95 at Dillon Precision (stock number 19262) and they ship to Canada
