Wow,
Im surprised there is really no info on this site regarding the Leatherwood ART II line up of scopes, either the M-1000, or M-1200.....
I've been aware of these since the '80's when i got involved with shooting, and read up about them, and their beginnings in the Vietnam conflict. I've always been interested in them since i first heard of them, and always wanted one!
Anyways, since i do alot of coyote hunting, and my primary weapon of choice is the .223, there's so many 'yotes out there that never give me a shot at them, they will FULL barrel run out to about 600+ yards, then stop.... dancing around, knowing they are out of range. With that being the case, I finally got a .308 caliber rifle, just for these times.....
I'm a pretty good shooter with the Mil Dot type scopes, and understand them, but the one thing with that is, the 'yotes don't give me the time to do the calculating required to get off the 6/7/800 yard shots, they won't stand around long enough! So i finally ordered a Leatherwood ART II M-1000. I think its ability to adjust to unknown ranges on the fly, should be invaluable in these situations! and the 18" boxing stadia in the scope, should be almost the perfect size for a 'yotes height and body length!
i can see it now, get it set-up for 150 gn. loads, and see a 'yote smokin' along at mach2, the bugger slams on the binders at 740 yards away, thinking "HA,HA, I'm wayyy outta range, he wont bother"..... Thats when i twist the ranging ring, box his body in the "stadia box", and let 'er fly! never even taking my eye off him, and all in three or four seconds..... KaPoof goes the 'yote! I can barely wait!
so with all this in mind, ill be sure to do a mini review when i receive it, and let ya'll know how it works out for me. I think its an overlooked piece of equipment! I know there are alot better scopes out there, but nothing that will range find, and adjust for distance WITHOUT even taking your eye off the target, and so quick!
