Anyone got any experience with a Leatherwood ART scope?

I wanted one forever and finally came into a used one a little while back. While the scope is complete and appears to have seen very little use, I'm not sure the cam system is working properly. The cam was stuck in the mount roller when I got it (the cam had been turned too far). I got the cam unstuck and it all turns but it doesn't seem to turn smoothly and at part of its travel, the cam does not touch the elevation roller.

Long story short, I was considering sending the scope back to Leatherwood / Hi-Lux for a refurb but it seems that shipping a scope back and forth across the US border is a bit of a PIA.

Was kinda hoping someone might be an expert or know an expert in these scope who could help me out.

I have the same scope...exact same issue...this one is actually the replacement for the first one I had that #### the bed. Love the idea, but quality control and service from Hilux is poor at best.
I have just reserved to write it off as a loss....

I sent Leatherwood an email to see if they would sell me a replacement nylon roller. If they won't, I'd probably pull the nylon roller out and make a replacement on my lathe. Delrin should work. I've got a bunch and it's easy to work with.

I don't see any obvious damage on the roller but it could be damaged and also stuck in one position. It also seems to be slightly undersized?

If they are willing to repair it at a reasonable cost, I would be inclined to accept that offer. Shipping to the US shouldn't be an issue, for the return, just instruct them to notate that it's "Canadian goods returning to Canada" CBSA should only collect any taxes on the repair. Good luck. IIRC Wolverine is the distributor? they would probably help with the repair/shipping.

I already talked to Leatherwood and they can't ship direct back to Canada. Getting the thing back is a PIA.

I disassembled the roller assy and my roller is damaged and deformed. I measured up the roller and it is pretty loosey goosey on the shaft. I'm just gonna make myself a roller with better tolerances / dimensions to make it work better. I've got delrin rod but was considering making the roller out of bronze to make it stiffer and less prone to wear. Bronze is self lubricating too.

I think I have solved the problem. I made a replacement roller on my lathe. :D

I tightened up the dimensions of the roller so it isn't sloppy on the pin and it fits the cam properly. Win-win really. :)
