I have a Lee Auto Disk Powder Measure for .40 S&W. I currently use 180 gr XTP and Universal powder. The auto disk I use is the .53 ( like the load chart states ). I have no problem with the load but would like to try a little less powder so there is not as much UMMPH to the round.
How does the disk work as for loads? Should I try a small disk like .49 or a larger one like .57?
I guess my question is if I want a smaller load do I use a smaller auto disk number?

Yes the smaller the number on the disc the lower the charge weight. It is also dependent on the powder you use. The measure should have come with a chart that shows charge weight in grains/powder for each size of disk #. If you dont have that go to lee's website and download it. I use the # .43 with HS-6 and get 6.0 grains.

If you have a scale, check out Lee's Adjustable charge bar that replaces the discs.
It allows for infinite powder drop settings.
Then you are not limited to the specific powder weights that the discs drop.

The LEE second edition Modern Reloading has 180gr XTP, 5.0-5.8 MAX of UNIVERSAL POWDER

According to the manual disc .53 = 4.8gr of universal

Just make sure you do the math to convert your load to CC's for the discs. You don't want to lighten the load beyond safe limits.

Hello everyone,

I am new to reloading, and I just bought a used Lee Pro 1000. Where would I find The LEE second edition Modern Reloading or the newest edition. My question was answered above about the lee's discs.

I am going to reload .38 special with 158gr WC. I think I need to use the .30 grain disk loader.
