Has anyone experienced issues reloading .223 Federal/Winchester/Rem factory cases with Federal Match small rifle primers in a lee auto primer? I have never reloaded for the .223 and have for my other rifles with large primers and the auto prime worked well, was quick and consistent. When I did the setup for the .223 with the sm rifle priming tool it seemed that nothing lined up 100% and it required a lot of force to get primer into the primer pocket of the case....the rim of the case was damaged as a result. I double checked the shellholder size and it matched what was listed and I double checked that the primer pocket was clean--which it was. I did note that depriming the cases it seemed that I had to push harder than when I have deprimed my large rifle cases. I tried 3x to prime cases with the last time using the Winchester bulk ammo case and experienced the same issues.

Any advise or reference links appreciated.

Thank you!

A swager is easier, if you are going to be doing a lot. I used a countersink chucked in a little cordless drill; that got rid of the burr.

Lining up is a different issue but expected as it is a Lee product... For "lot of force needed to seat the primer", the likely issue is that you have brass with military primer crimp. You either have to swage the primer pocket or ream it using a power tool and correct size primer pocket reamer...

RCBS, Frankford Arsenal, Dillon have good swagers. Lee has that APP with a primer pocket swaging attachment, I tried it for a short period of time and noticed it is not removing the swage as good as others...

I bought the LEE auto prime hand primer Deluxe Set...it is total garbage. I am saying the Hand Primer version...pure garbage....
