Lee Breech Lock Reloader Press vs Hand Press

Hi all

Looking at getting into the reloading game, and wondering thoughts on a traditional reloaded press vs a hand press.

I've done lots of reading, and understand the pros and cons of both. Thinking the hand press might be way to go for portability and load adjustments at the range.

Any thoughts?

I guess is there anything the reloader can do that the hand press can't... or vice versa?

Just to note, this will be primarily for tailoring hunting loads and some range time (not often) on rifles only.

I got a lee hand press in a auction lot with a lot of other stuff and have used it the odd time. If one can get one real cheap they are handy to have but as far as portability goes more and more of us use powder measure systems that are not very transport friendly. Now and then I will use the lee scoops for powder and these with hand press will make range handloading fairly easy. For me its just easier to make up a few different loads at home.
 
I started on a Lee hand press and it’s a great tool. It was perfect for my living situation and shooting habits at the time; low volume rifle reloads and short on space. As I became more serious and found myself needing to form cases and use larger dies (577 Snider) I moved up to a RCBS rockchucker. For load development at the range the lee hand press can be used far beyond the entry level. If doing so you can use the Lee scoops with a digital scale and a powder trickler to speed things up.
