I was told that clasic cast turret press only uses 4 hole turrets is that true? i would rather use 3 hole turrets since i don't use factory crimp dies.

I thought I read somewhere you can run a 3 hole die on them , and I am sure you can run the 4 hole turret with 1 whole empty if you wanted to.

i use a 3 hole for 40 s&w and a 4 hole for .223 i gave up on the auto indexing its worn out and it sucks lol but as far as i can remember you just have to get the auto indexing rod for a 3-4 hole

the three hole turret is not interchangeable with the the four hole turret. Different lug set up.

FINALLY SOMEONE WITH SOME SENSE- look at the way the "circle " is set up- on a 3 station there's a station every 120 degrees; on a 4 station, every 90
different gears,- the ratchets might interchange, but that's it- besides, most folks want a 4th station(that's why lee sells the conversion kit)

So you can't use the 3 hope turret in classic press for sure?

The 3-hole turret will not function in a head designed for a 4-hole turret. or vice versa. That's why Lee sell an upgrade kit for the 3hole press to upgrade to 4hole.

The cast turret comes only in 4 hole.

Since a number of three hole don't have auto index, would a 4 hole fit then?

no, period- read my STATEMENT AGAIN- the STATIONS are 120 degrees apart VS 90 DEGREES APART with the 4- when you change over to the 4 station from the 3 you CHANGE THE TOP PLATE, which has the STOPS IN THE RIGHT PLACES- dropping a 3 hole turret in a 4 hole DOESN'T WORK

maybe i like to yell, but the answer has been given some 3 times now- for the record, you only need 3 holes for automatics, but 4 for revolvers as the factory crimp die comes into play-

When loading pistol I set my 4 Hole Lee Classic Turret up with a sizing die, expander die with powder measure and riser, bullet seating die, and taper crimp die. (I don't use my pistol Factory Crimp Dies for most of my loading unless I have to).

I bought the Lee 4 die sets, then later bought seperate taper crimp dies to use instead of the FCD for most loading.
