Lee Classic Turret Press for Mainly Rifle Ammo

I'm going to interrupt the Lee love in for a bit.....for a few extra dollars you could get a Forster Co-ax, the best press of all. Sometimes quality gets lost in all the talk of cheap prices and where is the "cheapest". When you do the math, the price diff.may not be so much, with the Co-ax the dies just slide in, so once they are set, die changes are instant and without the cost of turrets. You never have to buy shellholders, and you have the strongest, most precise, press out there.
I don't believe in relying on ammo making equipment where the main buying criteria is that it is "cheap".
 
I think that all of the Lee insults and complaints of cheap equipment are a result from there older, rather chinsy equipment. If you look at a Lee Classic Turret Press (the cast one), then compare it to a RCBS rockchucker, then the quality is very comparable. The classic turret press is very beefy and robust when you look at a side by side comparison of the classic turret press compared to the older, regular turret press. Everything on the classic turret press has been beefed up, and even the base has about a 30% greater area that sits on your bench. The handle is much larger, and I think that every single part seems to be supersized and beefed up.

The quality of the classic turret press rivals the quality of a rockchucker, only its half the price, and loads twice as fast.

I absolutely understand what you are saying and I have looked at the Co-Ax but that "few extra dollars" you are talking about is 3-4x the price of the Lee. Hardly a few extra bucks.
 
Forster CO-AX...$234 from M-S.....no turrets syndrome.....no shellholders, best press out there, or you could buy the cheapest, no brainer to me!
 
The Forester is'nt in the same price category. Even at $249, its still about 3xs the price that a Lee classic turret press costs at factory sales, so its really a no brainer to me. I'm sure its better, but if your spending that much, then you might as well just throw in a little bit more and get a base model Hornady progressive press and buy it locally to avoid the expensive shipping. Whenever you buy something, there is always the next level in price and equipment.
 
With all due respect to BH, Lee makes a mean turret at a great price. I do not look for benchrest precision, just a durable, easy to use reloader I can afford.

The Lee Classic Turret is what it is. An inexpensive reloading press that works (for most people, it's even cheap enough for cheap people like me).

I use my cheap Classic to reload for my matching cheap Norkie 1911s and Ruger pistols. I like cheap because I like to shoot a lot, but also need to eat and pay my bills at the same time.
 
The best turret press on the market is the Redding T-7.
More money than Lee but I'm pretty sure you could pass it on down to your grandchildren and they'd still be loading on it 50 years from now.
