So, apparently, Lee has a list for requests for equipment and if they get enough requests, they'll do a run. I've really liked the collet neck sizing dies over the years. I asked them for a set in 7mm wsm and 17 hornet.

I find the brass lasts a lot longer with those dies.

They are great, I've used the Lee Ultimate 4-die set for years in a few cartridges. I'll use the collet die for a few case reloads then run the cases through the full size die and trim. I've got cases on 10+ reloads here that are still in great shape. Upgraded with Hornady lock rings. Solid dies.

I was surprised when they did not have any PRC collet neck sizers. Even with the additional step of using a body die to size my brass, I still like using a Lee collet NK sizer.

The only set I have is for 6.5 x 55. If I pick up once fired brass, I will full length resize, then from that point on, I only neck size. I'm lucky in that I have three rifles with virtually identical chambers. It seems like the brass lasts forever now. I would like one for each of the other calibers I reload, but I don't reload all that much of either of them to justify the extra cost.

I use them on various cartridges. For their purpose (and few other specific things they help with) they work well. I did a multi hundred load test in 308 across 4 rifles a while back (started with two, but expanded) and in two of them they seemed to contribute to the group size, in a good way. - dan

Was just wondering if I'd be able to use my 7mm08 dies to neck size 280 ackley?

I am assuming that you have a neck sizing Lee Collet die for 7mm08 and are asking if it can also work for 280 Ackley?

I don't think so - is a collet die here for 9.3x62 - I intend to modify for 9.3x57 - will not work as is - appears to function by a sleeve at bottom of the die being pressed against the shell holder of the press - so the case neck has to be there when that die squeezes the neck collets to be closed. Might be possible to make spacer to insert between shell holder and that sleeve on the bottom of that die - to use it to resize a longer case than it was made for? I have no idea how much clearance is provided for the case shoulders, inside those neck sizing collets??

Because of where I am and what I have on hand, is likely I would try to make spacers, before ordering in a new die - but I suspect that a new die made specifically for 280 Ackley would work, for sure - not completely clear to me if the spacer idea would work or not, but I would try it, first.

In my chambers what happens is my brass grows when I only use the Lee Collet NK upon successive firings. It gets to the point where chambering gets snug and more than the crush fit I like. This is when I use my body die and partial full length resize. Bump the shoulder a couple thou. This keeps things consistent and produces good, consistent ammo. Once you start to bump you will have to bump all the time. I imagine you could bump more than a couple thou and use the collet NK until things got snug again but that is not being consistent enough for me. If you play around on the internet you will find more of Woods reloading technique with Lee Collet dies. Lots of good information. I do think he has gone to F/L bushing dies now though.
Have fun, shoot lots.
