So I was checking Factory Sales site and I noticed that all the " kits " for the 4 hole turret presses did not include any type of prime system. Looking at the more moderately priced single stage "kits" showed that they all come with some type of priming unit, whether it be priming on the press or by hand.
I am thinking it is easier to just buy a Pro1000 for one caliber and have everything I need show up in one shot. Why can't they just toss a safety prime in the box!
What happens if I de-prime all my brass and use an auto prime to prime by hand, can I skip a station and go right to charging the case on a turret press as long as the case was sized when de-primed ?

You could either buy the classic turret and then buy all the pieces you want assembling your own "kit", or prime by hand and put the brass back into the mix. I do this sometimes with my progessive. Either size/decap and prime all the brass first, or decap and prime but remove the decap rod from the sizing die and it can go through it and be sized with primer already in place.

My buddy uses the old style aluminum frame turret and I have the Classic turret. We both use the Safety Prime attachment with no problems.

Make sure your SP kit has the "bracket" that mounts on top of the turret, where the SP attachment slips on to. If not, you have to buy this bracket separately.

We could also prime on both turrets by placing individual primers on the primer cup of the primer lever T-arm. Slow and tedious but works. The Safety Prime system makes priming much faster and convenient.

Easier to de-prime/prime on the press than to hand prime. Saves double handling.
 
I use the hand primer and was wondering the same thing about the turret press. Could one size and deprime a case, then remove that case and substitute it with a primed case and continue on with a turret press? This would allow you to prime the removed de-primed case later using the hand primer and still allow you to use all the stages on your turret press.

Currently I have a single stage and was thinking a turret would be a nice upgrade for the price range that I can afford.
 
I wouldnt try to swap out cases due to the risk of a mistake.

I would however size/decap all of them, then prime them, then run them through the press again and charge with powder, seat bullet and then crimp.
 
What's the point of hand priming when you can do that in the press?

Nothing wrong with doing all reloading stages in the turret which is so much faster than handpriming. Am I missing something?

This is what I was considering, after pricing things out it looks like for about 50 or 60 bucks more I can just go to a progressive and save a bunch of heartache and head scratching!

The Four Hole presses do come with primer arms - one for small and one for large primers - at least the Classic Cast Turret does.

You will also need the Turret Press Bracket to mount the Safety Prime to that press.

I would recheck the shipping rates, just because your quotes seem a little low. Factory Sales does not include shipping free.
 
Just buy the safety prime! Its like 30 dollars.

The pro 1000 is only good for pistol reloading. If that is all you will be doing then by all means go that way.

Personally if I was doing it all over again I would go for the Loadmaster. LOL

IMHO ,Dont do it ,Just dont do it, They will work but can be very frustrating ............ save up and buy a better press if you need a progressive. I have been there done that , I think i would rather punch myself in the balls before I would go through that frustration again .
