Does anyone use these? If so how do they work for consistency and accuracy?
I'm kinda confused about these things as lee dipper 3.1 which came with my deluxe dies is listed for 3 different powder weights. For varget it lists 46-43-42grains with the same dipper. I'm just starting out. Is it best to just forget about the dippers and weigh/mAtch each charge for a given load?
 
I used to use them to add powder to my scale...held it on its side and tapped it until I had the correct amount.
Then I bought a Chargemaster.
 
I wouldn't rely on dippers but I guess that if you still weigh each charge and trickle up for exact charges, you're okay. For this purpose a "powder trickler" is the best thing to use and cost $15-20.
 
I use them allot to get close to my powder charge. I then use the powder trickle to refine the weight to the exact weight. It speeds things up. When it's plinking loads that does not require accuracy it does the job well.

I use them, AND make my own from graduated vials that I picked up at the drugstore. The other thing I use is the lee dipper capacity chart, (search the web, I forget whereI found it). This chart gives you volumetric measures for different powders. This is a MUST when using dippers because different powders measure differently by volume! And finally, ALWAYS check your measures with a scale. Maybe every 5 rounds or maybe every 20, but checking more can't hurt.

Same here, they see occassional use for this when I'm not loading enough to make it worth while adjusting the powder dump. Way back, I used them on their own, but now I use them in conjunction with a scale.
 
Thanks guys. I played around with the dipper and got anywhere from 42.1 to 43.4grains per scoop. Leveled on my digital scale at 43grains my lee balance beam reads 43.25grains. I guess that's close enough for me. It seems to get me close then I just lightly tap more into the pan. Thanks
 
I will do the lazy man trickle with the lee dipper once in a while I must admit. It basically still using the scale to meet target weight but instead transitioning to the trickle for the fine adjustment, I just scoop a little powder and tap the dipper with my pointer finger in a way that the powder trickles on every finger tap. It goes a little faster...accurately.
 
I loaded a good many 30-30 with a Lee Loader kit, using the dipper. I still use dippers to charge cases with "light loads", such as 5 gr. of 700X in 30-30 cases under a 93 gr. Lee lead (WW) bullet, or 10 gr. 700X or Unique under a 130/150 gr. bullet in .303, 30-06, etc. The little 30-30 load is neat for indoors, except everybody wants to try it! Obviously, I'm not trying out in the 1000 yd. finals, but the dipper does fine.:)
 
If /i am loading match grade .308 I use a scale and powder charger/trickler.
Plinking rounds... dippers work fine... if you have a fine grandual powder they are right on the dime within 2 tenths of a grain if you level them with a straight edge. Works great for reloading in the field with the Lee reloader.
