A dealer picked up a VG to Exc 1941 Lee-Enfield No4 Long Branch 0L18XX at the Truro gun show.
Its different from the regular No4 in a few ways its bolt release is the same as the British No4.
The front sight protective ears are like the No1 Mk VI, and the cocking piece looks like a No1.
I asked if he was going to sell it and he replied he would, I couldn't afford, it but it was a beauty.

Where is the Truro show??? Any pictures of the 41.........?????
 
My issue Rifle from my time in the Royal Signals, 1954 till 1966, was a Long Branch 303. It was covered in cosmoline?
I had only been in the Army a couple of days, now I was up to my elbows in guck! Helping the armourer. Catterick Camp in Yorkshire.

The wood, a stain? Was deep mahogany coloured? We also were issued spike bayonets? I was appalled (18 years of age) "We don't get bullets?"

Up to this time in my life, I had only shot Air Rifles. But I shot a 5 shot group, at 50 yards, prone of 2" battle sight. It shot to point of aim, point of impact. A range I used for years, on the Lake Shore, was 1/4 of a mile from the old Long Branch factory.

I will be 82 in October, yet I can remember those times like they were yesterday yet I have no idea what I had for Supper on Thursday! My Wife is a great Cook, feel sure it was good!
 
Interesting history Mike! Love the old Long branch rifles and grew up a stones throw from there. I dont remember the range there but I grabbed a few bricks from the arsenal when they tore her down 20yrs ago or more.
