Quick question for the LE gurus out there; I saw a Jungle Carbine at a show recently that got the hamster wheel in my head rolling. This old rifle had the flash hider removed, and the barrel looked awful short, and upon further research I saw that from the factory the barrel was 18.8 inches long. The flash hider is about 2 inches, so would removing it and thus rendering the barrel about 17 inches make the rifle prohib? If I see another one for cheap I'd consider buying it and adding the flash hider after but wouldn't want to walk into a legally problematic rifle.
