Lee Enfield bolt question

Hello gents, I recently acquired a No.1 MK.III* and have a question about the bolt. While the action seems to work fine and it dry fires properly I notice a space between the cocking piece and the bolt body when the bolt is in the fully fired position (see photo). I took the bolt head off to see if the firing pin was bent, binding, etc, but it looks fine.

Any ideas?

It's because the bolt handle is up...when it's on the rifle with the bolt handle down, and the rifle is fired or dry fired, that gap won't be there. No problemo.

I think I should have expressed myself a bit more clearly - please see photos below. This gap still exists when the bolt is in the rifle in the fully fired position.

I'll take it to Gunco and have Jason have a look sometime (I have some Rosses I need him to go over anyway), but I thought I'd seek some wisdom here first.

You see the screw at the back of the cocking piece? Try removing that and see if the cocking piece is threaded all the way on to the firing pin. It looks like it may not be threaded on to the firing pin all the way. Do you have a firing pin tool?

If it's not threaded tightly on it may be able to be turned by hand.

I made a firing pin tool from a roll pin with a grinding wheel. I use vise grips to turn the roll pin.

I'm in the process of buying the proper tool (thanks Gairlochian) - I'm sure it will come in handy in the future.

The cocking piece is not screwed far enough onto the firing pin. Could be;
1) loose as I see the retaining screw partial out 2) engagement problem on the sear 3) too much project on the firing pin if fully enaged.

Even If tht's not the case, it's still no big deal. the firing pin collar is stopped by the rear of the bolt head.
