Lee Enfield chambers

Often hear about sloppy chambers in the Lee Enfield rifle...especially the SMLE rifle.....was this only peculiar to the SMLE....or is the the No.4 rifle not so prone to this.

Chamber dimensions are essentially the same.

Chambers were made to close tolerances but were deliberately made large.

I wouldn't call it "sloppy" More like you could not guarentee that all ammo would be made to the same tolerances, nor would it always be in pristine condition.The military was not in the practice of picking up the fired cases and reloading them,

One of the problems the Ross had was making the chambers too tight.
