Has anyone run into any smle's that have different lenght butstocks? I have been buying the sporterized ones latly like its goin outta style, my latest addiction, but have found that the butstock on one is about an inch shorter than the others i have bought. the only part "sporterised" was the forstock. its a bsa as well. no1 mk 111* it still has theoriginal brass butplate on it. the only difference is that it had vollly sights, cause the stock is cut for it by the safty.
any ideas?

Short stock.

Just like today's military you have short, regular and long stocks, you Lee Enfield may have a S (short) on the the top rear of the stock I have a few short ones and two L "long" ones the regular one are generally not marked. For the #4 you may also run into one marked B for bantam.

the short buttsock is a half inch shorter than the normal one
The Bantam buttstock is one inch shorter than normal.
Bantam stocks came about when the casualty rate in WW! forced the army to accept recruits that did not meet the pre-war height standards.

The Long buttstock is one half inch longer than the normal one.
