Lee Enfield furnature

Whats the best way to maintain the stock and handguards on my Lee Enfields.....should linseed oil be rubbed into the wood work ....the stocks and handguards are in good shape..but would like to see a bit of a shine too...concerned about the wood drying out and cracking...or am i hitting the panic switch lol..!

I know you CGN's will have good advice....always great reading your posts...thanks

That's what I did, boiled linseed oil, did about three applications of it then used beeswax to shine it up and protect it

Boiled linseed oil is the stuff. But if you go to a paint store, they will sell you "Boiled Linseed Oil" which has NOT been boiled but, rather, chemically treated. It has some of the properties of actually-boiled oil, but is designed for paint manufacture.

If you want linseed oil that has actually been boiled (as you do for finishing a stock), go to an art supply and get yourboiled oil. It really HAS BEEN boiled. You can add a few drops of JAPAN DRIER to the linseed oil. You get it at the art supply also. But stay away from hardward-store "boiled" linseed oil...... becase it ain't.
