Lee Enfield Markings ?

THIS 1942 #1 MK 3 It has the brass disc in the stock marked CN 38 . Any info what this may be ? CN Railway ?

There is a hard cover book, The Lee-Enfield Story. 1st and 2nd copys. Or the British Service Lee. Try and find someone near you, take some time reading them.

Most certainly not Canadian National Railway (which would be CNR) OP. I would look to a unit in the ANZAC military for what CN is representative of.

How about rack markings? My 1944 Long Branch has a circled number 18 stamped into the rear stock in gold paint I think.

Any idea where that may have come from?

There will be anomalies, but I believe the "newly" made No1 MkIII's were only or mostly issued to the Australian and New Zealand (ANZAC) regiments.

Canadian Navy. I had the bayonet and I've seen the rifles. CN, Canadian Navy.

Not sure about the Canadian Navy theory as we have never had a 'Canadian Navy'. We have however had a Royal Canadian Navy though.

RCN rifles were stamped C/I\N on the butt and body.
