lee enfield mk1 no3 vs no4mk1 need help to chose

To me they're basically the same. I've owned both and I just like the rear mounted peep sight on the No 4 so much better than the mid mounted open sight of the No 1.

Hi, i am in a big dilemma i really like these 2 rifle but i can only afford one (the wife say so) so guys witch one should i chose and why ???

Thanks for your help!!!
Eithe ones are very accurate rifle. The no4 have a peep sight so you may find easy to use, either the two position (300yd and 600yd) or the micro adjustable one. The no1 have a v notch sight and if your eyes are good, will shoot dead on. Personally, i have a soft spot for the no 1 with his full lenght stock, all depend of the taste you have. You cannot go wrong with either of them.

Tough choice.

Well here's what I'd do. Get the one that's in as good a shape as you can find. Let the "good shape" criteria pick for you. Then, when the timing is right to get a second gun, you won't have to choose, you'll simply get the other model :)

With the heavier barrel and stiffer action the No.4 will be a better shooter, but hard to beat the handling qualities and feel of a No.1 in my opinion.

I know it wasn't necessarily asked ;) , but if you're talking about buying a "sporter" , get the No. 4.....:yingyang:....with factory 180-grain loads a sportered SMLE's barrel can get downright "toasty" rather quickly.....

I had #4 and stupidly sold it (idiot !). I now have a #1 which I definitely won't sell. All matching numbers except the magazine.
Personally, I think the #1 is more 'classy' but both are great rifles:cheers:

I HATE sporter, i think they just destroy the historic behind the rifle ... but what ever that is just my opinion !

thanks guy i will go whit a no4 and when the wife wont look I'll get a nice no1

Without question, for me, the SMLE would be the one. After a few years experience, I find it seems to cycle better than any number 4/5 variation, despite the so called " better" receiver sights. cheers.

I'd say we pretty much all agree with that sentiment :yingyang: , but like others have said  , if it's already sportered, it is what it is.....
