I am so proud of myself! I got my first moose with my good old 303.

I shot this:

With this!

I also always wondered what J.O.D stands for on my but stock. It is a 1940 R.F.I re-build. Anyone know?

ha ha ha thanks. Ya... a lot of guys up there 5-6 of 18 had 300 wsm. Funny thing was I out shot them with iron sights when they had scopes when we had a shoot out.

It's great to see the Canadian tradition continue! I nailed my first deer with a full stock #4 and up there, eveyone and their brother had at least on sporterized LE in the family.

Thanks for keeping an age old Canadian Tradition alive! It's always nice to see a classic in action.

Even better that it's a non-sporterized 303!

And congrats on the swamp donkey :D

So many moose have been killed by lee enfields I am surprised moose havent elvolved the ability to smell them at a mile. Nice moose and nice rifle.

Impossible. Everyone knows you need at least a .300 Win. Mag. or .338 for moose. :p

In other words, well done!

:) Stuart

Is that Lapua or Federal? :p

I personally use no less than a .55 Boys for Moose. Everything else is soooo under powered. Laugh2

Nice LE, man. Can't wait to get my iron-sighted Rem 722 out in the field. glass is for weiners. ;)

Well done. Great to see that it was done in full dress too! Looks like you took it near the spine in the back? How far out did you have to reach to hit it?

federal :p.

I blame my shot half me and half the ammo. I had jammed the round and the tip was mangled... should have take it out but i was too excited. It went through its stomach and broke its back on an angle. I shot it at about 100-120 yrds approx..

My father in law uses a sportered 303. He finds the Prvi Partizan 180gr is the hottest factory loading for the 303. His freezer is always full ;)

Surely you jest. Lapua, silly boy. Preferably the Ackley Improved version. A couple of the Lazzeroni heavies might make the cut, too.

On the other hand, I have a nice, iron-sighted Husqvarna 9.3x57 squirrel gun that rumour has it can be stretched to moose in the absence of anything really adequate.

Congrats on putting the old girl to work...:D

My first moose was .30-30ed, the 2nd was .303ed.

They both died even though no magnums were involved.

170gr @ 2000fps exited the far side of the moose, and broke a rib on the way in...

Somewhere in my "junque" I think I still have the 180gr WW mushroomed .303 bullet....
