I was wondering if the Lee Enfield experts could offer an opinion on the markings on my gun? I apologise in advance for the pictures. These small, faint stamps are a bit beyond the capabilities of the camera and photographer. I have a 1918 vintage No. 1 MK 111. The stampings, which are on the stock in 4 places and the top of the barrel, appear to be: “2 broad arrow GG” and “47 broad arrow GG”. I think they are unit marks and the ‘GG’ refers to the Grenadier Guards. Can any experts educate me?

stamping on stock butt, “2 broad arrow GG”

stamping on fore stock, “47 broad arrow GG”.

stamping on barrel(small and hard to see), “47 broad arrow GG”.

Thanks for the feed back. I agree the stock does not look original to a 1918 rifle. The gun has an "FTR 1953" marking on the receiver. That is probably when the original stock was repaired or replaced.

But who cares... you have a very nice rifle and you can enjoy it!!
