Looking for opinions and reviews on the ATI synthetic stock for a 1918 Lee Enfield No1 Mk III (SMLE)? The rifle was free, and was already sporterized with a few repairs on the wood.

Its for the 14 year old boy as his first center fire rifle, and was looking at converting to the ATI Monte Carlo stock.

I've installed a Parker Hale BA-24 scope mount on it, and wondering how to remove the rear sight which is mounted on the barrel.

Does anyone have a used ATI stock in good condition for sale?

Thanks

i'm in the same position. My father retired my Grandfather's old service rifle... its been literally through the war and back. It comes with alot of history and quite a few stories. Its taken more moose and bears that I can think of... its been banged against trees, run over by a couple skidders, lost over the side of a boat in the cold north atlantic... but its a shooter.

The wood is ROUGH, but my plan is to take my first "rifle" moose with it and retire it for my son... but I wanna shoot it...

I initially put an ATI "pin on" scope mount on this one, and took it to the range. First round was fine , second round blew the scope AND pin on mount off the receiver and into my face. Through the blood running into my eyes, I thought I had just received "scope bite" then noticed the whole mount was gone, and lying on the ground beside me. SO.... needless to say, the pin on mount was thrown in a drawer to be put on eBay later, and I tracked down an obsolete BA-24 screw on mount.

This rifle had screw holes tapped in the side of the receiver already, so there's really no value in returning it to full wood status.

It doesn't recoil quite the same as my No5 Jungle Carbine though!

I put one on my No5 last week. Went out to try it and it threw the angle off for the trigger or something, becasue I fired about 5 rounds just fine. I noticed there was no creep or anything on trigger so I figured it was an improvement. Then went to chamber a round and it decided to fire the round off before I had the bolt closed. now cant even get it to ####. Gotta do somemore dremel work I guess.

The rear sight is removed by first removing the front sight. If it's the same as my No1, knock out the small cross pin under the front sight blade. Tap the front sight off the end of the barrel, remove the key from the keyway.

Lift up the rear sight and remove the screw that holds the spring. Knock out the cross pin on the side of the sight. Tap the sight mount down towards the muzzle. Should slide right off.
