I have just picked up a 1918 SMLE No 1 Mk3 that has been sporterized and I want to return it to original condition. What I need to know is the parts list I would need and where I can buy them (Canada or US).

If any of you guys with experience of this can point me in the right direction it would be really appreciated.

Thx.

Take yours apart and start comparing what you have to a diagram. Marstar and Ellwood Epps tend to carry some parts. Check the EE for others. If your stuck, there is US retailers.

For the Forestock part #66, try Numrich. Worth the shipping costs to get one, but "some fitting will be required", to put it mildly. :D

Before you do anything like spending money, measure the barrel length and check the headspace. Thousands of No.1's were assembled out of parts bins with zero QC. Nearly as many have had the barrels cut a bit too. Should be 25" or thereabouts.

I just ordered almost everything from Numrich gun parts that I neede to restore a 1915 Lithgow No. 1 Mk. III. The only thing I couldn't find there was part number 45 forend nut and the front handguard. You can get the front handguard from liberty tree collectors. Order the front nosecap from them as well as they give you the nosecap, and both nosecap screws in one package which are hard to find on their own! FYI Liberty tree collectors will not sell the forestock to Canadians!

Two weeks ago I put an order in at Liberty Tree for the complete wood set. They will ship the top hand guards but not the forestock or butt as customs will not allow it. I really don`t know why as it`s only wood.

Numrich will ship all the wood, but liberty tree won`t. is it because liberty trees parts are used? i ordered a upper hand guard from there, never did get it to colour match.

It's because Liberty Tree couldn't be bothered to figure out what parts are, and what aren't, covered by ITAR restrictions. I've made a couple orders from them, and it appears completely random as to what they'll ship or not. I can't fathom the reason why they thin No1 Mk III parts might be ITAR restricted, but that's the excuse they've given for not shipping.

Numrich actually has a couple of people on staff who do nothing all day but look up parts against the list of ITAR restricted items, and I have yet to have them decline shipment of pretty much anything. You can order the same part from LT and NM, and NM will ship, and LT will panic, decline, and scream "ITAR!!!!"
