Hi Guys. Someone gave me a sporter marked M/47C (designating made at BSA SHIRLEY) dated 1944. Are they common ? I have`nt seen one before . On the internet there is a bit relating M/47C to sniper rifles but looking at the rifle it seems late war on the rough machining side. Thanks for any info.

Not overly rare, though BSA didn't make as many as Long Branch or Savage. Seems everybody in Canada though is looking for a Long Branch and price is accordingly higher than a British made Mk 1* or even a Savage, sporters seem to be selling in the $150-200 range these days. Less if drilled for a scope, or barrel cut down, as they aren't wanted to restore to military full stock specification.

does it have a T on the left side wall or a TR down below the serial number on the left side metal that separates buttstock and forstock?

Rum and intenets don't mix :( , meant to say the British models are all Mk 1 and not Mk 1* , some people believe the Canadian and US made Mk 1* models have a tendency for the bolthead to jam in the cut-out sometimes. Brit models have no cutout in the bolthead track.
