Lee Enfield No 4 MK I (WITH PICS)

I have one of these that seems to be 100% original, marked 1943, US Property and all numbers seem to match.

It's dirty and has some surface rust at places but no damage except the butt plate that has a good ammount of corrosion.

Is this thing worth anything or should I just sell it locally for a few bucks?

well it will be worth money if u cut down the wood, take a hack saw to the barrel and drill and tap for a scope (dont do anything i said)

MaxKW, let's check first if your No4 is sporterized or with its full length stock and handguards?

From what I can tell from the pics,

It has a no1mk3 buttstock,
The rear sight has been ground down on the 300 yard position.
Has a little surface rust that should clean up but honestly I think it was a rebult from parts laying around.

All I know about it's history is that a guy I used to work with bought it at a army surplus store many many years ago. The way it is now is the way it was when he bought it, he literaly didn't touch it.

bolt and receiver serial numbers matching is good.

but still $400 at todays prices.

I would guess that wood would be from an early 1941-42, see how its cut low for the cutoff.

Looks like it's built from parts - and not the correct ones for a 1943 Savage. It's a Mk 1* , so the low cut sided stock is an earlier one. The buttstock is much ealier, the middle band with the rounded profile could be a Long Branch version.
Having said that, in the 40's 50's and 60's a LOT of Enfields were cut down and sporteriaed, so it's lucky to have survived that treatment.
It was either "refurbished" a long time ago, or more recently- from the history you know, probablly a long time ago.
If only they could talk......
Value? Whatever somebody wants to pay.. yeah, maybe $400 on a good day.
