Recently taken on trade, I saw it today. It is a BSA, I couldn't make out the date. It is correct and complete, not modified. The butt pad is better than average, the wood is quite good with a shine more like rubbed oil than lacquer or shellac. The bolt serial number doesn't match the rifle and the finish is flat black, maybe not original. The bore was dirty so I went back later to clean it before deciding whether to buy it or not. The rifling looks o.k., not great so I didn't buy it because I have one. If it was really nice and underpriced I'd have bought it to clean, test, and offer it to the Gunnutz for a good price, but it isn't that remarkable. If I put a bit of time and trouble into it I'd want more than I'd feel comfortable asking. As it is they are asking $300 and if you are close enough to go look for yourself it is probably a good price for something you want to shoot occasionally and for the sake of having a real No.5. (Or you never know, sometimes an apparently unremarkable rifle turns out to be just a great shooter.)

Roll back 50 yrs in Saskatoon to the Birney's Hardware store on what used to be called Avenue A; they were selling wooden barrels full of muzzle down No4 and No5 LEs at $12 a pop. They were tropicalized with that funky green coating on them.

I would give my right nut for that rifle... Too bad im in NS...

Call them. I don't know if they'll ship it, but if they will sell it to you over the phone I will pick it up and mail it to you. It's just not quite good enough for me to assure everyone or anyone I don't know that it will be as good as they would wish.
