What would you guys say a No4 Mk2 is worth. Out of package, in good condition, with bayo and never fired?

I plan on getting one as my first center fire rifle and would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks
KK

If you have such an animal, I'd suggest leaving it wrapped up all safe and unfired, and find yourself one that more used to play with.

Other then that I personally have no idea on value at this time. :)

Significantly less than one still sealed in the factory wrap. I've seen them offered for $700-850 recently, but I didn't see whether they sold at all, at any price.

Can you tell the difference between out of the paper but unfired, and out of the paper, fired 10 or 100 or 500 rounds, then disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and greased, reassembled and offered for sale as "unfired"? I'm not sure I can.

If you want a museum piece, it's worth whatever you or someone else is willing to give for it, or what the seller declines to accept for it. If you want to use it for shooting, the depreciation is pretty expensive for the privilige of believing you are the first to fire it.

Good luck.

I just paid $700 for a Longbranch in excellent shape. I am not sure if it has been fired or not and I don't plan on shooting it either. All I can say is that it is a beutiful looking weapon. The craftsmanship that went into it is amazing.

Milserps New or Used

I knew one guy that used to try to sell Lee Enfield No4's as new unfired was clean it thoroughly and install a new bolt head. You can't do it with a Mauser but Lee-Enfields are fair game.
I never took my No4 MkII out of the grease when I received it. If you take one out of the grease you knock the price from $600 to $700 down to $400. They aren't making any more of the traditional No4's so keep the new one. I put my new No4 in a No7 chest and left it there with the bayonet, cleaning rod, sling, and PH target sight. Like one of the other members said, use another No4 as a shooter and protect your investmant.

No4 MkII's have little collector value so condition is everything. Those "in the wrap" rifles are selling for $700+ now, they were $400 about 3 years ago. Out of the wrap should reduce the value significantly, like to around $400 as there really is no other reason to value these.

milsurps.com is a good place to ask

Why is milsurp.com a good place to ask? Is this board not sufficient? A lot of members post on both?

Oh BTW $550 to $600 for a new No4Mk2, any higher is a too much, They are very common.

Well, you paid more then you would have for one "in the wrap".......
You should have just bought one of the new manufactured AIA rifles in .308 for that price..... http://www.marstar.ca/gf-AIA/M10-N4.shtm

Thanks for the feedback. Not being able to see various parts of the Milsurp Knowledge Libraries is the case, when you don't register. ;)

If you aren't a member you have to join, however, you can register for FREE..... Sorry, but if we don't have people register with legitimate email addresses, we get plastered with posts from spammers sellling on-line presciption drugs and advertising ####ography sites. By the way, if you (or anyone) uses HOTMAIL, check your spam box for any registration validation emails. MSN has a tendency to put them there from all of the bulletin boards. I don't think CanadaGunnutz has allowed HOTMAIL email addresses for some time, which we've been thinking about doing as well.

In any event, you indicate that it's "Out of package, in good condition, with bayo and never fired"

With thanks to member Rob "Trebor" Reed, check in the England - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=12

Does it look like library example title Still wrapped 1955 No.4 Mk2 Enfield Rifle (Mfg by Fazakerley) (click here) .....http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=2348?

If it's one of those rifles and it's now "unwrapped" and cleaned up, then sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I agree with Hitzy that you paid far too much. A No.4 Mk2 "unwrapped" is probably a $400-$500 (tops) as a collector's piece ... and even less if you start shooting it now.

Absolutely Pete ... :)

Good point ...

Before I spend any money buying an item on-line in the EE or particpating in an auction, I spend a considerable amount of time on more sites than just CGN and Milsurps.com.

There are dozens of quality sites and boards with experts willing to share their knowledge. A good place to start is using CGN's milsurp links here:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=205408

The beauty of the Internet is that many of the experts frequent most of these sites and answer questions, but not all of them. As a result, it's important not to narrow one's research to just one or two sites ...... anyone would be downright foolish to do so.

"Knowledge is Power" ... and as a bonus is saves collectors a LOT of money, or worse, possibly buying a fraudulent piece. I've seen a lot of those lately. ;)

Badger

There was one recently on EE. I believe the fellow wanted what he paid for it before he cleaned it up. I seem to recall it advertized from another site a while ago.

How about one that's been used, maybe 3 or 4 boxes though it with a 7x Bushnell scope? $200 over the top (cleaning kit still in it, overall shape good, wood and brass in good shape)? Not collector but a good deer gun. LR
