Hi all. Not long ago I bought a beautiful (looks brand new) web case for my SMLE frm cgn'r bogusiii. (Thanks very much by the way. I could not be more pleased with it!)

Anyway, mine does not have the loops for the sling that I see that some of them have. It does not really matter for my uses, but it has piqued my interest. I have also noticed that the cleaning kit pocket is oriented differently on some as opposed to others. Does anybody know where I can get info on the various incarnations of these cases??
 
IMA had these made with the pocket flap oriented the other way, presumable so that people could tell the repros from the real thing.
The real one did not have a sling or any means of attaching one, and if you see one with a sling it's been modified. Many were so modified by the surplus dealers, with gussets and snout extensions for other rifles too. Sten slings were a popular basis for adding a sling.

 
I have a couple of those from years ago, thrown in with guns I bought or was gifted.

Handy for the 22, 410 or 30-30 behind the seat.
 
Cool! So mine is original and unaltered then. That is awesome. I am glad I have it though, because now the old girl is at less risk of getting dinged up every time I take a rifle out of the safe. Which reminds me .... I think I gotta buy another safe ... :)
