Hey guys, I recently picked up a No4 Mk2 and I was hoping someone could help identify it, specifically the "F" prefix I know the rifle is from 1953.... and thats about it. The SN is "PF 312###" and there's an "F" that follows the No4Mk2, also an arrow stamped on the receiver (and not the Canadian broad C).

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum. In case you're wondering, this place will suck out your brains and waste countless hours.

The PF is just part of the serial number. The ROF F marking is for Royal Ordnance Factory at Fazakerley, and your's is one of 50,000 so-called Irish contract rifles. It was the main British gun plant postwar for No.4s and 5s. I don't recognize the F after the number. The Broad Arrow is UK acceptance markings.

Nothing especially historic about these rifles, except that they were made postwar, were never issued and when sold as surplus they were untouched in the wrapping paper. Some guys charge a premium for a brand new sixty-year old rifle. Not necessarily a wise investment considering there are hundreds of thousands of other equally serviceable and shootable No.4s in circulation. We are not talking about fine wine, only decent examples of the regular stuff. As a Mk 2, it is a better design as far as tuning the trigger, but if the barrel isn't straight or the bedding isn't great, it is just another No.4.

I have the same from 1/54. It's the final and some believe best version of the Lee Enfield. I bought mine as a shooter and its all that. Have you fired it yet? Did you get a Bayonet with yours?

ya it came with a bayonet and scabbard, both matching numbers to the rifle :) I picked it up at a gun show a few months ago; it shoots great, unissued condition and paid 250 for it, its my third enfield but the only one in new condition.
