Hello,

I was just wondering what the average pries for sporters and full military config Enfields are.

I was under the impression that Sporter No 4s usually go for 150-200 and military config's can range from $350-$800+ depending on Arsenal, Country, and condition.

Now for Sporters, there are commercial and bubba'd versions. The commercials like the Lee Speed rifles command a higher price, or even some of the Parker Hales, but in my search I have been offered bubba'd No 4's for $350, and they aren't anything special. Is that the new going rate for the No 4 bubbas? For $350, I might as well try and get a full military config instead? And then there was a sporter without a mag selling for $175.. seems like prices are starting to climb up for sporters too.

I got my sporter 6 months ago, full barrel with 5 round mag for 175. Face to face deal all matching, just need new mag and some time to dress her up in the right wood. $350 for a sporter.....never. The one without the mag could have been appropriate depending on condition. Varies by area but in no way is $350 good for a sporter, one sponsor here has POF full military for $400 or so.

i have been looking at these for awile. what i have come up with is:
sporters : $125-$250

military: $400-$700

all depends on condition. last gun show i was at a guy had a no4 sporter for $35. you just never know what you can find or what people are thinking.

I'd never pay more than $150 for a Bubba'd Enfield. Now, that doesn't include Parker Hale, or Santa Fe sporters, those are collectible in their own right.

One more question, the commercial sporters made by PH, BSA, Globco etc, do they use tighter chambers allowing for higher accuracy? Or did they just use surplus receivers after the war?

Most of said guns were simply re-worked military rifles. They got to pick the best of a batch, and modified or replaced woodwork. Barrels, were shortened, sights were moved, added or removed etc.

If someone offered me a sportered LE for $350, I'd laugh in his face.
I was given a free one a few months ago. It was given to that guy, and he didnt want it.
Admittedly, it didnt have the bolt, but a fine member here on CGN got me sorted out soon after.

I paid 200 for a Parker Hale sporter with a perfect bore. I also bought 2 no4's from Epps (1 was a 44 longbranch the other a 60 POF ) both for 349 + and each had 8/10 or better bores. Albeit they were Ishy screw rifles but all matching bolts/stocks/receivers, and all there. ;)

Just picked up a cut down SMLE at a gun show for 90 bucks. LE's with nice aftermarket stocks had 300-350 asking prices. Not many takers for those though. The full military stock prices seem to keep going up though. Seen some places wanting 600 bucks for no 4's in storage grease.

They were generally bubba/butcher jobs taking advantage of the quantity of surplus at the time-1971- Globco conversions-$19.99-29.99 in Sears catalogue...

i was given a parker hale sporter, and i was given a NO4MK1 fullmilitary stock, missing a few items, but for about 100 bucks i got it all back up and running, i was told my PH sporter was worth 300-400 range, id say the full wood 400-500, even a parts gun is going for 300, wood sets 180-300, in a few years i bet we start seeing just a run of the mill mk1 for 800, the problem is these guns are starting to become extinct, guys like us know it and are buying them all up, people have no clue what they have, was at a gun show in winnipeg bought a carcano 91/24 for 100 bucks, there selling for 300-400, there was some guy there had a no4mk1 sporter for like 600 dollars, i put it down walked away, for just the run of the mill sporter 150-175 is starting to become on the high side, especially with all the work that goes into refinishing it,

Despite what you might see on the EE, sportered military No.4's are NOT worth $350 or anything close to it. Even in excellent condition you can get a nice one in my area for for $150 to $200. Full military configuration range from $300(mis-matched, beat up) to $800 (minty, all matching) or so depending on manufacturer, year and condition. Personally I think the English factory built sporters of the post world war 2 years are undervalued here. The Parker Hale, Churchill, Whitworth, BSA etc are really high quality hunting rifles with new barrels and well inletted and finished wood but seem to be lumped in with the old Bubba'd Lee Enfields. Good for those of us who appreciate them because we can buy them for a lot less than they are worth.
