Is there anywhere in Canada where I could purchase a new stock & handguards for my 303 british? I'm going to restore my rifle and want to put new wood on her. Any help appreciated.

Tradex has hand guards (new) and butts (new). They don't have any fore ends, they also have new butt plates.

Numrich or maybe Western Gun Parts might have the parts you are looking for. Another problem, will be to find the bands and swivels and the real tough one, the rear upper hand guard retaining ring. Issue screws, can also be a real chore to find.

Like mentioned, Trade ex has both handguards and but stocks, all new. They have what I think are Canadian make, as well as Indian make (much darker, almost black). But once you get the wood, you will also need the metal bits too.

Trade-Ex?

Top of this page, friend, 10 o'clock position from the round CANADIANGUNNUTZ logo: it is a sort of a tan/gray colour, marked "T.E.C.: Trade-Ex Canada". Click on that, then click on PRODUCTS and scroll down the list which will appear on the left side of your screen. They have LOTS of neat stuff.

You might find a fore-end on the Equipment Exchange (here). They run about $60 and up, usually up. Marstar has about a zillion sets sitting in a container in Greece, waiting for an export permit, waiting for an export permit, waiting for..... you get the idea. "The mills of the gods grind slow, and they grind men."

What year/make is your rifle? Has the barrel been chopped?

Lots of help here.

Good luck!

John Sukey (as usual) is right.

I think we all are assuming that you have a Number 4, since that is what the Rangers are using 'way up North of here, but that doesn't have to mean that that's what YOU have.

The rifles take the same ammo, they work the same, but the woodwork is VERY different... and it is likely that there are a lot more Number 1 Mark III rifles out there than there are Number 4 rifles.

Can you post a snap of your rifle, or else read us off what is stamped on it? I the rifle information is under the bolt handle and it has a rear sight partway up the barrel, it's a Number 1 Mark 3 most likely. If it has the rifle information on the left side of the frame and a rear peep sight above the action, then it's likely a Number 4.

The woodwork is VERY different.

It is a No4Mk1 ... I'll get pics soon as my digi-cam just broke and my cell phone pics are crap. I want to find a NEW complete wood stock and handguards. I will eventually have "murdoc" from arma-coat strip, beadblast and reblue/park the rifle ... I am not replacing parts, I'm just tryna clean her up and put new wood on the ENTIRE rifle. Any help appreciated.

Keep an eye on Elwood Epps-they also have had complete #4 stock sets. Another (more expensive) option is to look at Numrich Gun Parts in the USA-they have damn near everything for any gun....

Thanks "collector67" I'll look into those two places. What was the original finish on these rifles ... just parkerized? Also, I read a thread on here about a fellow CGNer who made his own complete stock set for one of these ... anyone recall his name? Cheers,

You have what looks like a pretty solid set of original wood there.

You can make it fit the rifle much better with a glass-bedding kit. They are worth about $35 but if you are careful you can bed threeor four rifles from one kit.

As to making the wood look a lot nicer, and preserving it into the bargain, LOT can be done with a wet cloth and an ordinary iron. I have a Japanese rifle here that I steamed more than 100 dents out of, then finished with boiled linseed oil. Starting with a piece of junk, I ended up with a darned nice rifle. Total cost was about $40, incluing 35 for the fireglass kit, and I had the pleasure (and, initially, frustration) of doing it myself.

Keep us posted as to what's happening.

Lee-Enfield No.4 Stocksets

Hi,

Have a look on eBay.ca or eBay.com for a vendor from Gray, Maine.

He sells complete stocksets and metal hardware sets for No.4's and No.1MkIII's.

His prices are very reasonable and he will go out of his way to help you get what you're looking for. He'll also answer any questions you may have. He packages his shipments well; and ships his orders out very quickly and will give you a tracking number if you request one.

I purchased a complete NOS British Walnut stockset for my BSA-Shirley No.4Mk1 from him just over a year ago. I paid just over $200.00 Canadian + shipping for mine. I'm very pleased with what I got from him.

He's worth looking into.

Best of luck to you.

Let us know how you make out with your restoration.

Hate to seem "oportunistic" but, if you do replace, PM me...your "old wood" is still desireable!

Certainly will do when I hear something.
