Lee enfield value. Bit of an odd one.

Hi folks, a friend of the family had decided to sell off his firearms, and has one I'm very interested in. It's a no1 mkIV (not a typo) in good to excellent condition. Does anyone have a ballpark value or fair price to offer him for it?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, no pictures, and not likely to get any. It's in original configuration and beautiful condition. I think he bought it fairly early in its life and has stored it in his cabinet ever since.

If I get it, there will be pictures!

I may be misremembering, but I thought it was a trial rifle made from an altered no1mkIII between the wars to try and overcome some of the shortcomings of the no1mkIII.

Edit: definitely misremembering, it's either a mkV or mkVI, based on the odds, likely a mkV

There weren't a lot of those made and depending on condition, such as completeness, rust, etc start at $500 for one in Fair only condition and go up from there.

Google is your friend on this one. Look up the rifle on line to see which model you have and check out Lee Enfield sites for pricing. Remember, rifles like that will have niche collectible groups which are usually very serious and very picky. It may be something you will have to hold onto for a long time to get its real value.

The No 1 Mk V is I believe an SMLE with a different rear sight.
The No 1 Mk VI is as I recall a trials rifle more like a No 4, with a waisted front sight protector.

Either rifle, in minty shape, is definitely interesting and out of the ordinary.

Hey, the guy won't let you take any pics of something you're thinking of buying?

With no pics, it's like saying, how much is a Ford worth?
