My #1 Mk3* restauration "project" has been sitting in the closet for months now. The major holdup is the lack of appropriate wooden bits, and the rather obscene prices that even repros command nowadays (Cheapest I found is worth more than the rifle in it's current state).

I'm now thinking that I should try to carve up my own, time is no importance anyway, and I have all the basic hand tools and some woodworking experience. Does anyone have a suitable set of drawings for those kicking around so I can have a basic idea of what I'm looking for dimension/shape-wise ? The idea is to carve out a basic shape, hand fit it to the rifle and the various metal bits that are eventually going to get bolted/screwed on it, and basically hand fit everything. The rifle's a 1917 BSA btw.

not an easy project, I've thought of trying a few times but never have the time to get right down to work on it.

smiths with duplicators are rather pricey but then the machines are very expensive.

give it a go but be prepared to make a few tries before you get it right. :)

That's the basic idea .... I figure I can try a LOT of times for about 20$ and the more I look at the parts the less complicated they look, mating the action with the forearm looks a <little> tricky but certainly doable with a little care. IF I can get a hold of some decent drawings. I got the rifle for free and I'd like to keep the finished project's budget under the 200$ mark if I could.

I figure locating the right metal bits will take up most of that budget already. That's the other hard part as I know that there are quite a few variations out there and I'd like to keep things as "correct" as possible, yet I don't have the foggiest idea of what would be "correct" for my particular rifle, and online sources have been of no help so far...
