Well, I'm finally going to bite the bullet and dive into reloading for my .308. After looking at reloading books and such, I've come across the Lee Hand Press, which looks perfect for my needs.

I don't have a lot of room or a designated reloading bench, so being able to pack it all away would be nice. Also, I'm only going to be reloading a few rounds at a time.

I've looked online and Cabelas offers the kit without dies for around $50, is this a good price or are there better deals to be had? Do you guys think this kit would be good for a beginner to start out with? I plan on using Sierra bthp 168/175s with whatever brass I can get a hold of.

I appreciate any help!

Higginsons used to sell them as well. I bought two of them several years ago. They work very well. Mine make up very true cartridges with little or no run out. They are very basic but will easily do the job.

I think I paid $45 for mine, kit no dies.

I bought mine after I had already been reloading with a normal single stage press. Although it does work I would still recommend a bench mounted press as it is much easier to operate without the balancing act of keeping the shell from falling out and the powder in the shell etc. You could make up a non permanent mount that you could just clamp to a tabletop when you wanted to reload and then store it away when not needed.

The Lee Anniversary kit can be had for a fair price from a site sponser reloaders.ca.

Its a cheap way to get in to reloading and all of the dies and other small tools will be useful when you move up to a press. They work, they are more awkward and harder to use than even a cheap press but they will get you started and will load good ammo if you're careful. As mentioned above, for not much more you can mount a basic press to a 2 x 6 and clamp it to the kitchen table and probably be happier overall.

Hmm, I may just end up getting a lee anniversary kit or something like that. I still need to figure out a list of all the stuff I'm actually going to need to start reloading.

Thanks for the help guys.

The Lee Anniversary Kit or Breech lock kit, a Lee case length gage, dies for the calibre you want to start with and a good calipre that measures 1000's of an inch and thats all you will need to reload besides components. A reloading manual like Lee's Modern Reloading, Speer, or Lyman would also bee a great idea, but alot of info is available online.

For neck sizing it can't be beat as you can sit on the couch and deprime and size while watching TV for full length sizing it is a bit of a pain as the upstroke is significantly more difficult but I only full length size every5 or so reloads with .308WIN and .270WIN and I've never full length re-sized .303BRIT just trim them every so often until signs of failure.

I started with one too. A bit of effort but nothing to get excited about. I did 308, 444 and 22 hornet. I sill use it sometimes to deprime and watch tv. Most important item on your list is a scale. the rest you can pick up as you go.
