Does anybody know this progressive system? Good prices on ebay and I know Lee is low end (definitely not Dillon) for reloading but it's a great price. Any input much appreciated.

I've never used that particular press, but used to shoot with someone who loved his. Lee stuff does a reasonable job in my experience, but you do have to be able to fiddle with things to get them just right - some people aren't good at that. They kind of remind you of "turn of the century" production machines when you first look at them, chains and levers and tubes all over the place. They can be highly effective, and for the price are a good buy.

I have a Lee loadmaster, and it's a good system for the $$. The priming system is the weak link, but it's not all that bad to get working right. Pay attention to what's going on, never ever force the machine and you'll crank out a good amount of ammo in no time.
The vids on the Lee website are a godsend, as well as search Youtube for a couple of others.

thanks alot echo!!!

no that's an extra, as is the BULLET FEEDER-it's listed under ACCESSORIES- 14.95

well the catalogue shows a loaded round catcher- and bracket- as far as the collator goes, i've bought a few and NONE came with the press- and i've got 4 presses - 3 1000 and the loadmaster- but in all fairness, 15 bucks isn't going to break me, and the case catcher can be bought at cdn tire for like 5 bucks for 3 of them and a couple of L brackets- you just have to give up red for black or blue- i got a HUGE loaded round catcher for mine because 1, i do a lot of rounds at a time, and,2) i got big hands- the ones i got were 2/9 bucks- it seems to me i wrote lee way back when about the catcher and they told me i could have 1 for 10 bucks or 12.95 or some such thing, but i found the cdn tire solution-and mine is FRIGGIN HUGE- incidentally, dillon also has a similar garbage bin- go to the hardware section, they're right next to the shop-vacs, and the brackets are in with the hinges

CASE FEEDER-THAT'S THE TUBES AND ASSEMBLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MASTER- the collator is the LARGE FUNNEL THAT FITS ON TOP OF THE TUBES- just in case anybody's confused

I don't own one but a few friends do and they love them.
I've never been fond of priming on the up stroke, from Lee I'll stick with the 1000 or a turret press.

I have wanted to start reloading, and just purchased a Lee Pro 1000 (with .45ACP dies) from the EE. I have been reading some of the posts here, and they contain a lot of great info. But I am having a hard time finding the Lyman manual that so many people say I should get.

I have read the thread by acrashb, and it is very informative. Thanks for the time and effort you put into it.

I have been searching for info on powders to use, but either I am not using the proper words, or I'm having a blond day <lol>.

Thanks for any help / advice. This place has been fantastic since I found out about it, and has re-kindled my love of guns and shooting. I have bought 3 rifles and 2 handguns since joining, as well as a bunch of parts / ammo / mags / accessories...

Thanks. Cheers...

Thanks for the kind words.

Regarding powder, the Lee system responds well to ball or modified ball powders. For 45ACP, good choices would be AA#5, Titegroup and a few others. Titegroup will work well in everything from 9mm to 45acp to 357magnum (although with less velocity than slower powders). AA#5 is specifically designed for 45acp. Both powders are relatively clean.

ok so it may not be such a bad kit actually, i have a tendancy to over react, and ovrexagerate. it is just overwhelming, with all of the tubes, chutes, chains, gagballs, hanging from the loader. after reading the included instructions, and seeing what it does, it may just be doable.;) i guess for the .223 you dont need the other tube/funnel loader for shells. that is for loading pistol. which i do want to do later on, but im just in this for now to learn how to load, and then venture into other calibres.

Take your time, go slow until everything is set up. Another hint is to keep the primer path clean and free of any grease. You might want to order a couple of the primer pushy things, you will probably munch a couple of them. You can get them mail order from Higginsons.

One area that I polished was where the shell plate advance rod contacts the arm. The arm casting is rough and sanding/polishing that contact area makes the press run smoother.
