lee loadmaster for .223?

Hi,

I was just wondering if any one out there uses the lee loadmaster to reload
.223?
If so how well does it work?

I have seen the you tube video and it only shows 1 casing being loaded at a time, how does the press perform with 5 casings all at once?

How is the powder measure set up for the increased powder? is the double disk adapter needed?

pictures of your set up woud be of great help.

I use a Lee 1000 for .223 from time to time (loaded around 500 rounds this summer) - works good, but a little slower than pistol reloading. The double disk kit is a must, or use some other manual type powder measure.
 
Like any progressive press, the first round always takes 3, 4 or 5 pulls depending on the make/model. After the first 3, 4 or 5 (ie when all the slots are full), then the machine does that number or rounds with each pull.

The 5 station would be perfect for rifle rounds. 1) Resize, 2) Powder, 3) neck expanding, 4) seating and 5) crimp.

Can't afford one right now so my turret and extra single press for the crimp will have to do. :cool:

not only no, but hell no, put a dillon or other trip-type powder measure in there- chances are sooner or later you're going to forget to flip that lever and end up with a no-powder situation- also the LACK OF CAPACITY on the lee makes it a poor choice for 223- you have to refill the hopper too often- the dillon screws right in , you just don't attach the return safety rod
 
If the Lee powder measure is set up properly it's fully automatic, not sure what you mean by flipping the lever... I visually confirm that the powder has been thrown so it's worked for me but I would love to upgrade down the road. For capacity, you're right the max load is about 60gr Varget, but that's enough range for what I'm loading.
 
your last line says some other manual type powder measure- i took that "manual type" as one requires to flip a lever to drop the charge- either way, i found the lee inadequate even with the double disk kit, as i was forever filling the hopper- and i'm only using 25 grains of 748- but i reload a batch of about 500 at a time- i shoot an ar
 
I have a loadmaster and it really doesn't save any time. Unlike pistol you have to trim after resizing. I went back to the single stage.
