I am wrestling with a problem ... my Lee loader won't expand the opening in 38 special cases. It appears that the die inside the powder thru that is supposed to slightly open the case isn't reaching the proper point. I have followed the Lee procedure as shown on their website to set this up properly without any success. Any suggestions are appreciated.

You have to make sure that the die is screwed down all the way. It should almost , but not quiet touch the case holder when it is in the down stroke. If I remember on the Lee, then you adjust the expander up & down in the die.

If the die is not all the way down then the expander inside may also not be down far enough. Other than that, I don't know without seeing it..
You should have dies that are for both .38's & .357's.

have you tried a .357 case ?? At least this will tell you if you are close or not.
 
Thank you for the help! It turns out that somedays I'm a lot dumber than I look! I had the wrong die installed. I bougt a new set of dies last week and the package insert said 38 / 357. The powder through die for 38 is slightly different and now that I got it sorted out I'm good to go.
