A couple of months ago i had the idea about getting a 7x57 rifle i like the looks of the Ruger african or Rigby highland stalker. Basically a nice classic wood and blued rifle a bit shorter on barrel and classic lines but being left handed that leaves very few options so i have recently been thinking about buying a donor rifle and having it re chambered.
This being a rifle for myself and possibly my left handed daughters down the road and wanting to do it right the first time and wanting a CRF rifle what action should i be looking for a ruger , winchester, zastava ? One complaint from the zastava is the stock is a little crude but i will be cutting it down anyways and could rework it some.
It seems a action that fits a 30-06 length should.
Any recommendations for a Smith to swap ?

I had the same idea so I built one using a Zastava from Trade Ex. The Zastava has the CRF and the iron sights are already installed. The original stock has more than enough material to be reshaped into the Rigby style but Boyds makes a Zas LH LA laminate so I used that for now. The rifle shoots well, if a little bit too heavy. I will reshape the other stock and install an under bbl swivel but too many projects on the go right now. The throat is long so using the heavy bullets is not a problem.
This is my second 7x57 and I have a savage LH LA on hand as a doner for what will be the third one.

If you can find a left handed winchester model 70 action, I'd build off that. But the chances of finding one is slim and you might be paying what a custom action would cost, to get it. Zaztava is probably your cheapest option, a custom action might be the "best" option, but the coolest (imo) option would be to source a LH model 70 action and a really nice walnut blank and build off that.
