Hello all, being a left handed shooter, it is sometimes hard to find some types of rifles that were made with a left handed action (eg. WWII stuff :) ) Anyway, The savages and remingtons have a decent selection of left hand stuff. But I've always like the actions with a mauser type claw extractor, and the Ruger M77 Hawkeye offers one in a left handed configuration, just wondering if anyone knows of any other brands that off "cool" left handed rifles?

I know there's a WW1-2 era rifle that had a straight-pull bolt.

Other than that, everyone at the time was taught to shoot "right". ;)

For new rifles, Most manufacturers only make wood or laminate stocks. Certain "tupperware" stocks exist, but they are few and far in between.

As far as I know, no manufacturer makes a factory rifle fitted with the likes of a McMillan stock (in a southpaw configuration anyways).

The best I could find, I purchased: Savage 10FLCP-K with the Accustock. About half-way between a 'true' bedding job and the standard plastic that comes with most Savages. Be aware, it is quite heavy with the aluminum bedding.

Tikka makes lots of leftys in a wide range of calibers, with the Sako style extractor, which is as positive an extractor as the old mauser style. Weatherby offers the Mark 5 in Ultra light, left hand in 257 Weatherby and 300 Weatherby, both of which extract well. Ruger makes the 375 Ruger with positive feed and mauser style extractor and this can easily be reabarreled to any 30-06 length caliber you want.

The first easily available left hand guns were made by Savage back in about 1972, followed by Remington in about 77. Anshutz made small caliber lefty for a long time. As far as biger bore, before 72 they were pretty much custom built or conversions of right hand actions. Most leftys shot cross hand, like me, or used levers, pumps etc. You will have a lot of trouble finding pre 1970, left hand actions.

"...everyone at the time was taught to..." Forced actually.
"...W. W. II stuff..." You won't find any left handed milsurp firearms. Mind you, a semi-auto works just fine when fired left. Never had any issues with ejected brass from any semi or full auto. Did have an M1 clip bounce off the peak of a hat once.

Yeah, I really like the look of the Ruger 77 Hawkeye. I would love one in .243, anyone have any experience with these rifles as far as accuracy is concerned?

Also, if you really want a LH Ruger M77 in 243 it may be a little bit of a wait. Ruger just began offering a LH Short-Action this summer and it may take a while getting them to Canada.

25-06? They are available now.

Check with Prophet River rifles. They just had some left hand Rugers come in not to long ago. I don't know if they have a .243 or not. They were advertising .300 WM, 25-06. 30-06, and 7mm RM I believe. All stainless laminate LH.

P.S. Really like my Ruger Hawkeye leftie so far. My only B*tch is I found the trigger a little "creepy". Gonna fix that with a Spec tech trigger. I'll let you know how it goes.

I have never had the pleasure of shooting a Ruger chambered in .243, however I do own one in .338 WM. It is an accurate hunting rifle. You won't find m(any) of them at the precision shooting matches though.
