Tried this in a different forum but no luck. Figured this may be a better spot -_-

Just curious what all the southpaws do when they want to run a chassis? Especially in a Tikka Inlet. It seems most companies only offer lefties for the rem700 footprint but not tikka.

I know MDT does left hand SA for the most part (They do have a LA in the upper tiers ) an of course XLR makes an ambidextrous chassis but wondering what others are out in the world that won’t cost me both arms and a leg :)

Looking for something a little different for my tikka to sit in. I like the ability to adapt a chassis to a shooter. I have also been looking at the GRS stocks but for some reason keep getting hung up on the idea of a folder for compactness in travel.

Just looking for some more ideas. Let me know if a folder is a waste of time ?

Cheers,
B

where i live and hunt there is no way i will have a rifle in the bag/pack ...

That’s a pretty good point. Sadly not all of us can live it such a vast and beautiful place (I spent a few months working 100km up the Campbell highway from Watson lake a number of years ago) maybe one day I will have that chance but for now I’m stuck with coastal stuff :(

First off, all TIKKA actions are the same length with a different bolt stop. The bolt face will need to be changed for differing head sizes. For example, a 243 can be converted 30-06 with a barrel swap, long action mag, and the long action bolt stop, etc. Of course a long action stock is necessary to accommodate the mag.

Left hand Tikka actions fit in right hand MDT chassis and stocks. Need to mill out a relief for the bolt handle. I've done the same for CZ452. That way you can buy second hand and save some coin.

More so concern with how a long action mag handles a short action caliber in the chassis systems. I have a mag that works flawless in tikka bottom metals with both long and short calibers example being 6.5 prc and a 6.5 Swede that I use the same mag for. I also have separate bolt stops and had a smith make me a left handed bolt body with a standard bolt face and just swap the internals when I switch (haven’t bought the rest of the pieces for full second bolt yet) it be nice to see a chassis that was adapted to the idea of one action for long and short but that is useless to the rem 700 footprint so likely never to happen. GRS is my favourite so far with the tikka bottom metal working in them so it doesn’t change my magazine use.

Just annoyed at the lack of options for tikkas they are wonderful actions and work flawlessly for me. Good to know you can mill out a left notch though would be allot easier then finding a lefty.

I dropped my Tikka T3x Varmit .308 into a Masterpiece Arms chassis from GBT. It's ambidextrous, so reselling is easier. Dropped my T3 Sporter .223 into an MDT chassis that I bought from Mystic Precision. Jerry is a really good guy, helps out on here where he can. MPA chassis took awhile to get. Both are nice pieces of kit.
You can also look for used sporter stocks. They're heavy and you're stuck with 5 rd mags.

How does an ambi chassis work? Bolt relief cutouts on both sides, or do they just drop the "wall" down so it works on both? I imagine it can't look great to have the first option.

Unfortunately MPA stopped the ambi versions due to a copyright apparently
