Left hand twist

There's no reason why left twist barrels can't shoot well. Other than the direction of twist, there's nothing extraordinary about it.

Did the conversationalists offer a reason why they were very happy with their new left twist barrels?

North vs south was mentioned! L north, R in south. They were using barrels both R & L from the same maker. On a few actions. Enough to make a perdition?

A perdition? No.

Right twist or left, northern or southern hemisphere -- no .22LR shooter posting on this forum will find that either will make a difference in performance.

As a general observation, there isn't a magic rifle/barrel that will spin straw into gold. Too many times shooters, myself included, have sought out that special rifle or barrel, that special brand of ammo, that special circumstance that will transform the results down range.

For the best results what's needed is a good rifle -- and there are many of them out there. It doesn't have to be the most posted-about make.

After a good rifle, what's absolutely indispensable is the appropriate ammo, matched to the particular rifle. What's key here is never the brand or make of ammo but rather the batch of ammo. Consider that if a shooter has on hand as many as six or even eight different lots of the same match ammo -- even Midas + or X-Act -- there's no guarantee whatsoever that any one of them is going to shoot especially well.

Next, it's up to the shooter. Skills are never static. They must be maintained and there's always room for improvement.
