I'm looking to purchse my first AR shortly. Looking to spend around 1000$. My only problem is I shoot left handed and haven't been able to find anything that accommodates it. Anyone have any suggestions or can lead me in the right direction?

baloney- the ar series was DESIGNED for ambidextrous employment from the get-go- that;s why the charging handle is aft instead of up on the bolt, and there's that bump on the right hand side- so you can charge with EITHER hand , and that bump is called a CASE DEFLECTOR- again designed with the left handed shooter in mind- sure there's dedicated left hand ars but you'll have trouble when it comes tome to sell- what you NEED is a left handed coach that knows the ar- the left handed ones are called mirror image

I am left handed. I use a normal AR. I personally wouldn't waste my money on a left only model. I suggest you try out a normal AR15 first before purchasing a lefty model if you haven't done so already. Shell ejection is not a issue. Looking for a model with ambi controls will be the only real need if any. I haven't even bothered doing that either.

Stag arms

Only the ejection is to the left. All the other controls are standard BUT AR's are somewhat lefty friendly.

At least the bolt release/lock is left handed and can be worked with the trigger finger for a lefty. The other controls can be worked without them needing to be ambi. But if you got the cash, just add a Raptor or BCM ambi charging handle, a Norgon ambi-mag release and an ambi safety and you're good to go.

As left handed shooter, I've never had issues with a standard off-the-shelf AR.

I'm a lefty and have had a couple of Stag lefty AR's (currently have one of their short barrelled versions). I've also had a few regular AR's...and about the only reason why I have the lefty is because the ejection port is on the correct side for me. With the ejection port away from my face, I find I don't inhale as much gas (which gives me a pretty severe headache) as I do with the regular AR's. Aside from that, the ergonomics of a regular AR are actually quite lefty friendly. Price difference between a regular and lefty AR seems to be minimal.

My main concern was just the ejection. But if that's not an issue. Maybe I'll save some time and headache and go standard

speaking of ars , what is up with all the operators mounting the stock high on the shoulder instead of tucked into the nest or crook as I was taught?- is it because the helmet or the way the sights are employed?- every time you see a squad deployed, they've all got the bottom so that the stock tucked into the top of the shoulder- I don't care whose agency it is- did I miss something?

As others have said, STAG Arms from Arms East is your best bet for a dedicated lefty AR, but I don't know how tight you're going to be on budget. To echo others, my left-handed shooting buddies have had zero issues with my standard ARs, with the exception of my original slickside Colt SP-1. After a couple of mags with my brass deflector equipped ARs, all seem to adjust for the ejection cycle and ignore it.

This. The AR is perfect just as Eugene Stoner designed it. I don't understand the desire for lefty ARs. Adapt to the rifle as it is.

I initially looked for a lefty, then after a bit of research i found a cheap DPMS (normal righty) for sale so i grabbed it.
After running through many scenarios with it i proved to myself shooting left would never be an issue (could have jist lstened to the CGN experience, but I am a hard head)
So i eventually sold that AR and built one from the ground up...ATRS supplied the lower, and it is lefty friendly...just get an ambi safety.

And it should always be able to sell.

I'm a lefty and always shoot both eyes open. The brass deflector doesn't stop the powder to blow in my face. So for my confort I chose Stagarms and I'm very happy with it.
There's also a bigger safety issue than flying powder. In catastrophic failures (obstructed barrel, wrong powder load, etc) blast and parts tend to blow back trougth the ejection port. Right-handed shooters may tell you to put your face there but it's your decision. I didn't give up on every right-ejection gun but I give much interest to alternatives. Stagarms is a good ones, Tavor, Browning BPS, etc.

I'm a righty who shoots rifle lefty. Absolutely no issues with shooting a standard AR. Just make sure it has ambi controls (or add an aftermarket one) and you'll be good to go
