Hello Everyone,

Recently got my PAL/RPAL and went to purchase my first gun. The issue I ran into is don't know if I am right handed or left handed. The clerk let me see some guns and asked me to stop and test myself. I am left hand, but I can use my right hand do. How can I test myself to see which hand I can shoot.

Thanks in advance.

see which eye is dominant aswell. if you can use your right hand to hold a gun, but you look out of your left eye it'll feel awkward

You took the test with guns I presume what felt best??

Take a shooting stance and hold your hands up in front of you with one pointing as if it was a gun. Close one eye and take aim.

Whichever hand is doing the pointing is likely your donimant hand which would hold the pistol. Likewise whichever eye was use opened while aiming should indicate your dominant eye. Ideally you should have the same eye/hand in use. If not you might have an eye dominance thing going on.

I would get out to a range and try out a couple of rentals with both hands. Should be pretty apparent which is more comfortable.

Cheers.

Should I join the range first, or I can go with someone to test. Also do I need a firearm in order to join the range or no?

Thanks

Depends on the range where you plan to shoot. Most big cities have indoor ranges that you can pay a fee to rent and try some different models and you don't have to own. Call the range you plan on joining, I'm sure they'd be happy to help and might be able to hook you up with an experienced shooter.

I have poor right eye sight, but am naturally right handed.
I have easily made adjustment to shoot left handed with a conventional right handed bolt rifle, though I did buy a left hand savage model 16 bolt and haven't found it difficult to use my left hand for working the bolt.
