Last night around 8pm I started my tumbler so it could run a few hrs. I forgot to turn it off before bed and then this morning I left without turning it off. Is there any danger of fire? Breaking the tumbler? What about my brass? Is there any chance that it is damaged/un-reloadable from being scrubbed for 24hrs+?
Or will it just have a mirror finish? Haha
Thanks.

not problem for the brass

i use a timer all the time get home, toss it in hit start, and go out and do other things even go to sleep or go to work, no prob.

pick up a plug in timer ( only use off, not on ):D

I have turned on my tumbler after work, left it running that evening, forgot to turn it off that night and then went to work the next morning. Came home and turned it off... no problems. Brass was REALLY shiny.

My record is just under three days!!! The brass looked practically stainless when it came out!!! My ten year old tumbler didn't seem much warmer than usual.

you just might win the shiney brass competition!

I run my tumbler through a timer so no matter what it only run for 3 hrs in any 24hr period.

what you have to worry about is the lid coming off and media flying out all over your laundry room.. like that's never happened....

My record is from 6pm on a Friday night until about 11pm Sunday night. It's a Lyman 1200 and I didn't have any problems. Just keep something in mind though. Any piece of machinery, be it a tumbler, car, lawnmower, printing press..... is only going to run for so many hours and it's worn out. Try not to do it too often. :D

My average tumbler time is 2-3 hr.

It is never a good idea to let an electrical appliance run without supervision. It is your house and you make the call.

I also have tumbled for 18-24 hours, brass will be quite shiny.
Remind me to dig out my timer, too.

No harm done unless you used BRASSO, lol. :stirthepot2:

Don't forget to take a pic for the "shiny brass" contest in the reloading forum.

That is why my tumblers are in the detached garage on a concrete floor. They are removed a minimum 4 feet from flammable substances.
Also no big loss (compared to the house) if it goes up.

It probably won't hurt anything as long as the tumbler isn't overloaded. Electric motors wear out more from being started up than running continuously under the load they are designed for.

if you had the foginator model 2012.. you could have let let er run and let the catz and dogz, jump the drum and use it as a treadmill,to get there exercise while you were out
