I'm new to 870s. Is it possible to switch the safety to left handed? I'm also looking for an online manual if anyone has a link.

It can be done but it will be hard to find someone to take the liability. Just change out the trigger plate assembly for left handed and then sell the existing plate.

Great. I figured as much. I'll just have to adapt as with everything else gun related I guess. It ain't easy for us sinisters :)

Uncle Mike's used to make a drop-in lefty safety. I have one in my 870, but tought to find one these days.

It's shaped differently than the stock safety and when installed does not rotate at all like a righty safety does. It also came with a plunger pin to replace the ball bearing detent. The exact same parts are also used to convert the 760/7600 rifles. If you post a WTB, someone might have one they'd part with.

UM doesn't make them anymore and shops generally won't sell anymore as they are all afraid of being sued if you install it and then shoot someone with a gun that "you thought was on safe". Funny how lawyers have managed to negate the "don't point a loaded gun at ANYONE, safety or not" common sense practice.

Also, Remmy makes a left version of the 870 now (that most aftermarket parts don;t fit on - grr) so the makers don't feel the need to pursue conversion options.

As a lefty, I like the righty 870 with lefty safety best as the right handed slide release is perfectly located for a lefty - go figure.

I was always taught never to trust a safety, and if you can't trust it, why use it? I've gotten in the habit of not even using it, like you said you shouldn't be pointing it at something you don't intend to shoot anyway. It's a lot safer to keep one outta the pipe until you need it.

They are the same as the 760/7600s and are easy and safe to change. Takes about ten minutes, I've done it!

As mentioned, Uncle Mikes is the supplier.

The factory trigger plate needs to be modified to doit according to the Remington spec. I have done this to customers guns before. I am also a Remington Warranty Repair Center.

Or like in the above post, buy a new trigger plate.
