Merry Christmas all ye Gentlemen!!
Uncle Walther if I may share my experiences.
About 2 years ago or so I had Rick over at Alberta Tactical Rifle Supply build me my First fully custom long range/tactical Left Handed rifle.
The first thing we did was to determine exactly how left-handed I am. You see I am right handed, but left eye dominant. To determine this Rick took me to the store, and had me cycle and handle, almost identical Rem 700 bolt action rifle. The only difference was that one was Left handed, the other right handed. After some dexterity, and action cycling tests we were able to determine the I am truly a left handed shooter.
The next step was to find a platform for as a basis for a custom. I really wanted a mauser style rife and as such we needed a left handed older Sako. I settled down for a long wait as Rick searched the country for a left handed Sako. Would you not know that 2 weeks later he had what I needed, a complete left handed Sako 691L rifle. Rick trued the action, rebarreled it with a heavy 7mm rem mag barrel, bedded it , re-worked the factory trigger and worked his magic on so many other aspects of the rifle, to give me truly what I wanted an needed to get into long range shooting and hunting. The rest, as they say is history.
I am truly glad that I went the path I did, as I am extremely happy with the end results, a rifle that fits me. As left-handed individuals, we often end up settling, or making do in a right handed world. I truly believe that if you are going to shell out significant dollars, the product should fit you not the other way around. Be patient. Know what you want, earnestly look for it. As in the end it will be worthwhile, and you will have something worth keeping.
Regards and all the best
