legal antique rifle question

Hi gents.

Just out of curiosity......can a legal antique, center fire, rifle have a new, modern barrel installed and still remain a legal antique as long as the bore diameter is greater than 8.3mm?

Also, in order to remain a legal antique, would the new barrel need to be of the same caliber as the original barrel? Or would it be o.k for any caliber as long as it's over 8.3mm bore diameter?

Yes. Any cal over 8.3.

To expand on Smokepole's comment --- it is the frame or receiver which defines the gun as modern or antique, the rest is spare parts. I have a trapdoor springfield in 38-55 for example and it still meets the criteria for being an antique
