legality of AR-16?

I can't seem to find the AR-16 on Armalytics, which is basically the .308 version of the stamped AR-180. Makes sense since less than 5 were ever built. However, if someone like Kodiak decided to tool up and make a series of AR-16 rifles, would they theoretically still be NR, seeing as the AR-180b series + variants are?

The AR-16 prototypes were selective fire, therefore prohibited.
It might be possible to produce a similar semi auto rifle.
Made from metal pressings would probably be a non-starter.
What you would probably be looking at is a .308 version of the current AR-180B derivatives.
Who knows if any manufacturer would be interested in investing in the time, effort and money to produce such a thing.

A NR semi-auto ARish .308 rifle is what I want the most right now, and I imagine would be a very popular product with most people here.

AR16 semi auto, AR180B .308 variant...which ever it is. Let's make it happen Kodiak/BCL/Spectre/MRA/TNA!

Our market is good for 9mm PCC's and 223 AR180b's, bring on the .308!

BCL is giving us bolt crappy bolt actions now and shame but MRA seems to be only interested in their bolt action platforms at this time.

I've a Stag and now that it is sitting in it's time out, I decided to pull the trigger on a Tavor 7. After putting 3-400 rounds through it, I think I may prefer the Tavor over the AR-10 platform with the primary reason being the weight distribution and compactness. That said, if there were a .308 version of an AR-180, I'd probably buy it too.

Five were built, two of which are known to exist in firearms manufactres pattern rooms/museums.

Asking about its' category, is like asking how much for a unicorn hunting license?
Leave it alone.

Has 6.5 Creedmore ever been used as a military cartridge. If not, a firearm maker may want to develop an upscaled AR180B variant in Creedmore. And if a barrel change happens to allow it to work in .308, so be it...

Or they could just chamber it in .308 right off the bat. Why would they arbitrarily beat around the bush?

....and would turn "Evergreen" in days I'm betting. (Sadly)

Exactly why I am not at all surprised a lot of manufacturers are putting out manual actions rather than focusing on new semi auto designs. Not only do a lot of them capitalize on the parts many people have on their banned ARs, but the likelihood that a semi auto design gets banned before the companies can recover R&D costs and really turn a profit is at an all time high.
